Throughout my life, I’ve been faced with the same choice: Let mental health challenges take over my life, or treat them as tools to push me forward.
And every time, I’ve chosen the second option.
Now I’m building something to share how I’ve done this — over and over again, in so many different ways.
The oncology nurses caring for my grandmother after her cancer diagnosis inspired me to follow that career path.
I struggled so much with my anxiety during school that an instructor told me to quit because I wouldn’t be “a safe nurse." That only fueled my desire to succeed.
I did the same when I decided to become a nurse practitioner. I had to harness my stress to get through it once again… And after passing my licensing exam, I knew I wanted to help other aspiring NPs who were just as driven and just as overwhelmed as I was.
After passing my boards, I created a free review course for fellow students that eventually became my first business, Sarah Michelle NP Reviews. I grew it into a multimillion-dollar business with an amazing team.
Two years later, I sold the company to a big test-prep business. I faced a lot of doubts and challenges in the process, but I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
I’ve learned a lot through those experiences and continue to build, grow, and sell businesses with my husband — all so we can give back and create an amazing future for our daughter.
My daughter, Meadow, is the center of my universe. She was born in 2022 with a congenital heart defect, and we nearly lost her.
Thanks to my undiagnosed OCD (I’m getting treatment for it now!) my stress levels were higher than ever. I actually believed her heart defect was all my fault. But it actually made me a damn good medical mom! I was diligent and intense in my care, and today, Meadow is healthier than she’s ever been.
I’m a proud heart mom and love to speak about it, advocate on Capitol Hill on behalf of heart families, and support organizations that support research and treatment for CHD.
Go behind the scenes of my life, from normal days at home, to speaking engagements at NP conferences and more, to Washington D.C. for my heart parent advocacy work.
Bonus: You’ll also get to meet Meadow, the whole reason I keep going every day!
